Carving around Malbun (26cm x 21cm)
‘Carving around Malbun’ is inspired by the gorgeous Malbun ski area in Liechtenstein. We spent a couple of months ski training here, and this particular view is of one of the pistes we’d train slalom down.
It's a stunning area to ski train in. The undulating pistes made it such a productive place to progress our technique and ultimately ski faster. One of our training pistes overlooked the most picture-perfect chalets, snuggled up on the opposite mountainside. Those, combined with the stunning mountain itself and the incredible sunrises inspired me to paint this piece.

The story behind the Winter Whispers collection
The Winter Whispers Collection was inspired by my time ski training and racing for Great Britain during the last winter season.
It was the first time back ski guiding my Severely Sight Impaired husband after badly breaking my leg the winter before, and it felt fabulous being back in the mountains again.
We ski trained in Kaunertal, Austria most weeks in the run up to the race season starting, and then started to venture further for races as the season went on. We also ski trained in Malbun after Christmas which was an incredible experience. The mountains there are gorgeous and I highly recommend a visit.
As my leg slowly healed and gained strength, my mind also started to heal. I finally felt free again (no matter how slowly I was skiing!) as I guided my husband through his skills and drills. We started to gain speed, and I started to feel more confident in my abilities.
It wasn’t easy finding time to paint between training sessions and races, especially when our races were in different countries (and I have to do all the driving!) Nevertheless, I was determined that my art practice would still continue while I was away, and I thrived on the regular inspiration that surrounded me on a daily basis.
This collection encapsulates the quiet, healing power of the mountains, and celebrates their beauty and majesty. It’s been such a pleasure painting them and I’m so happy to be able to share them with you.

Why the mountain obsession?
For me they are the ultimate. The ultimate strength; the ultimate height; the ultimate power. When standing on top of them, they give a sense of perspective that’s hard to find anywhere else in the world. When skiing down then I get a thrill and sense of shared joy and fun that I don’t get anywhere else in the world. And when I’m at the bottom looking up, they give such a solid sense of reassurance. I’m the happiest I ever am in the world.
And I want to share this. I want to share the benefits of the mountings with more and more people. I tried to capture those feelings and express them through my paint. I want to give you something different; something fun and something joyful.
All proceeds from my art go to funding our disabled ski racing career.
